Shouldn't you know the facts!?

Broken or defective lateral sewer lines may lurk on your property—and what you aren't able to see underground could cost you up to $15,000 to repair...

Building inspectors can speculate about possible problems within sewer lines, but a professional video sewer inspection will tell you what you need to know!

A Day in the Life of a Sewer Line Inspector

When a sewer inspection is called for, the equipment brought includes a 200' cable with a camera lens attached to the end and a television projector which is used to display footage of the inspected sewer lines.

The camera cable can be inserted at either the main stack located in the basement or the clean-out in the front or back part of the property. The main stack is a vertical line that turns and runs lateral past the foundation wall of the property, out to the clean-out, and into the waste lines of the city.

Main stacks and lateral lines are typically made of cast iron and/or clay, but PVC piping may also be found in place. At the foundation wall of the property, video inspections usually show a lateral line made of clay and the clean-out is also usually made of clay.

The camera is able to inspect the entire lateral line. Often pipes are clear, but the reassurance of knowing that the pipes are in working order is a nice memento to have of your home. On the other hand, the camera often catches a number of problems ranging from broken or defective pieces of the line, plants rooting blockage, toys lodged, etc.

What To Do After the Inspection

After the inspection takes place, a recommendation will be made for care and maintenance of your lateral sewer lines. If evidence shows that a problem lurks underground, a contact name will be provided to handle the issue right away.

A VHS or DVD of the sewer line is available to property owners, or a seller of the property, at the end of the inspection.
